Embracing the Challenge: My Journey as a Content Creator
Written on
Chapter 1: My Decision to Create Content
After much contemplation, I made the choice to pursue a full-time career in content creation. Here’s a detailed look at my approach.
To be candid, writing was never my forte. The longest message I had ever composed was likely a breakup text, and English is not my first language. It felt as though I was battling strong currents.
However, I possess certain skills. I excel in product development, strategies, and staying informed about the latest tools and trends. I also have a wealth of ideas to share, which I intend to leverage to gain an edge.
Let’s get right to it. Here are my three key strategies:
Section 1.1: Leveraging Multiple Social Networks
I’m not claiming this is the ultimate strategy, but it’s the route I’ve chosen and plan to adhere to. I realized that I perform better with immediate feedback, rather than waiting months for someone to notice my work.
To encourage interaction, I joined relevant Facebook groups and subreddits, and began posting there, along with LinkedIn and X. I started to see small signs of traction across various platforms.
My third Reddit post garnered an impressive 56.4k views, along with 50 comments and personal messages from around 20 individuals. My inaugural post in a Facebook group also achieved remarkable engagement.
This feedback was crucial for me, as it helped dispel my doubts and reinforced the belief that I could succeed.
Section 1.2: The Importance of Repurposing Content
Using multiple social networks allows for efficient content repurposing. On weekends, I schedule a variety of tweets for the upcoming week. Some of these tweets evolve into longer narratives that I save in Notion.
I aim to post 2-3 times weekly on LinkedIn, sourcing ideas from X and Notion. My posts on X may be spontaneous, while I ensure every LinkedIn post delivers value. There is no strict posting schedule for now, but I may need one soon.
I also share in relevant subreddits and Facebook groups, and I’m currently trying to write daily on Medium, reusing concepts from my previous work. Quora acts as a safety net for those moments when I feel stuck.
TikTok and Instagram are still in the experimental phase, but I enjoy adapting my text content into videos. I’ve discovered a passion for filming and editing, though my posts must be more conceptual to gain traction.
Subsection 1.2.1: Starting a Newsletter
As an email marketer, starting a newsletter was a natural step. Understanding the significance of early subscriber acquisition, I created a Beehiv account, which I’ve linked across all my social platforms. This has helped me build a foundational audience.
Just two weeks in, I’ve received email responses and started forming connections with my readers. It’s the first time in a while that I feel a sense of purpose.
Chapter 2: Measuring Progress
Section 2.1: Evaluating My Journey
It has been two weeks since I shared that initial Facebook post marking the beginning of my journey. During this time, I have achieved:
- 200 subscribers on my newsletter
- 5,000 impressions on LinkedIn
- 3,000 views on Quora
- 2 followers and 80 claps on Medium
- Over 100,000 views on Reddit
- Numerous comments and likes on Facebook
- Personal messages across various platforms
I invite you to share your fears and doubts in the comments. Let’s engage in a conversation—I’d love to discuss and perhaps assist you in your journey.
The second video titled "Against All Odds" explores the resilience required in overcoming challenges, perfectly aligning with my content creation journey.
