Chapter 1: Introduction to Obsidian Plugins
In this article, I will introduce several innovative plugins for Obsidian, including Short Internal Links to Headings, Map View, Wordy, Chat-GPT Assistant, WakaTime, Obsidian Inbox, Image Captions, Automatic File Namer, Toggle Case, and Open Gate.
Section 1.1: Short Internal Links to Headings
This plugin modifies how internal links to headings appear, simplifying them from NoteName#HeadingName to just HeadingName.
Section 1.2: Map View
Map View enables the incorporation of an interactive map within your notes, allowing you to place markers based on geographic locations mentioned.
With this plugin, you can easily tag locations relevant to your notes, such as travel itineraries or notable sites. There are several methods to integrate geolocation into an existing note.
For instance, you can create an inline geolocation link using the format [](geo:), typing the desired location within the brackets. This action will prompt a location search via Map View.
Alternatively, access the command palette and select "Map View: add inline geolocation link." Here, type the location name within the brackets, and choose from the suggestions provided.
If you prefer, you can also copy the URL or "lat, long" coordinates from Google Maps or another location service. Right-click on your Obsidian note and select "Paste as Geolocation."
Additionally, by clicking the Open Map View ribbon icon and right-clicking a location, you can:
- Create a new note with that location as an inline reference
- Generate a new note with the location in the front matter
- Copy geolocation
- Copy geolocation as front matter
- Open in Google Maps
You can embed a map directly into your note by accessing the command palette and selecting "Map View: add an embedded map."
To add markers to your map, simply insert the inline geolocation links as follows:
Point 1: [Mosteiro dos Jerónimos](geo:38.69775305,-9.20559121173471)
Point 2: [Torre de Belém](geo:38.691613149999995,-9.215917330364086)
You can set marker icons through the Icon Rules in the settings, and Map View supports queries similar to Obsidian's standard query format, such as:
tag:#trip AND tag:#dogs
(tag:#myplaces AND NOT tag:#trip) AND path:"my trips 2023"
Section 1.3: Wordy
Wordy is a plugin that helps you effortlessly find synonyms, rhymes, or antonyms for any selected word. Simply highlight the word, access the command palette, and choose from options like Synonyms, Rhymes, Alliterative Synonyms, or Antonyms.
Section 1.4: Chat-GPT Assistant
This plugin integrates OpenAI's GPT-3 language model into your writing process. Just write your text, press the designated hotkey (default is :), and await the suggestions.
Chapter 2: Additional Useful Plugins
The first video, "Obsidian Plugin Spotlight - The Review Plugin," provides a detailed overview of the Review Plugin, showcasing its features and functionalities.
The second video, "Obsidian Weekly Review Plugin," dives into how the Weekly Review Plugin can enhance your productivity and organization within Obsidian.
Section 2.1: WakaTime for Obsidian
Section 2.2: Obsidian Inbox
This plugin notifies you when your designated "inbox note" receives new content. It’s particularly useful if you utilize third-party tools to send information to your vault. For example, I use an iOS shortcut on my iPhone to dispatch items I need to review later. When I open Obsidian, I receive a notification to check the "inbox note."
Section 2.4: Automatic File Namer
This plugin automatically renames your notes using GPT-3 based on their content. Access the command palette and run "Automatic file namer: Generate name for current file."
Section 2.5: Toggle Case
Toggle Case adds commands that can be assigned to hotkeys for converting text to lowercase, Title Case, or UPPERCASE. This functionality is also compatible with multiple cursors; simply hold down Alt (Option on Mac) and click to create several cursors.
Section 2.6: Open Gate
This plugin allows you to embed websites directly into your notes.
