The Illusion of Progress: A Reflection on Humanity's Nature

Chapter 1: The Echoes of History
It's been a while since my last sermon, and I apologize for the absence. The Duluth branch of the Post Ego Club has been tirelessly working to assist Ukrainians, from providing shelter for refugees in Minnesota to fundraising and organizing trips to offer help directly in the affected areas.
We are worn out. Yet, during such crises, if we—those involved in the Post Ego movement—cannot set aside our egos and personal agendas to alleviate human suffering, then what purpose do we serve?
I want to share an unsettling incident from Belgium. A 36-year-old man tracked down his first-grade teacher and fatally attacked her with a knife. He claimed her humiliation of him as a child was the motive. Initially, he intended to have a "conversation," but after feeling insulted, he resorted to violence.
This individual had experienced bullying in his youth, and his resentment festered for years. Perhaps a parallel can be drawn with Vladimir Putin; he appears to harbor deep-seated grievances against the West, particularly the United States. Maybe he sought dialogue but felt insulted, leading to his aggressive actions. Now, we find ourselves in this predicament.
Expressing resentment and seeking retribution for perceived slights are misguided strategies. It’s not the world that demands validation—it’s our own self that we need to confront.
Your self can be divided into two conflicting voices: the inner critic, which constantly undermines you, and the inner cheerleader, who seeks to uplift. If only the latter could silence the former! Yet, this internal battle will never reach a resolution. The inner critic will always have a voice, and the cheerleader will remain in a perpetual struggle.
As long as we cling to our egos and personal identities, we will continue to experience this inner turmoil. Many of us wrestle with feelings of regret and resentment over perceived failures, replaying these scenarios to validate our sense of being wronged. This cycle can lead us to a warped view where we feel perpetually cursed and isolated against the world.
Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine epitomize this psychological state. His increasing alienation from the global community fulfills his own narrative of being victimized by the West. He forgets that he initiated the conflict, not the other way around.
We often overlook our own roles in conflicts, clearly seeing the faults in others while remaining blind to our own. As Mr. Putin becomes more erratic and paranoid, we are reminded of our own inner tyrants—those aspects of our egos that refuse to acknowledge their faults while condemning others.
In Christian theology, this is known as being born into sin; in Post Ego philosophy, we describe it as being born with an ego. This is the nature of our egos: they function as poorly as the outdated military equipment the Russian army employs in its misguided campaigns.
Egos are inherently obsolete, existing in the past and incapable of engaging with the present. Their visions of the future are wild fantasies. Recently, we witnessed a grand display in Russia celebrating a vision of national greatness, with Putin mocking the West while adorned in an expensive Italian parka—an image of hypocrisy.
Let’s not forget: we are the same beings who roamed the Roman Empire, committing heinous acts. The individuals we read about in history are not fundamentally different from us. The human race has not evolved.
This painful truth is underscored by the current turmoil. Despite our advancements, we remain a troubled species—still capable of cheering as we witness suffering, much like the crowds in ancient Rome.
The only hope for humanity lies in transcending our egos. This is what we term "going Post Ego." If we can liberate ourselves from the inner tyrants perpetuating this madness, humanity might stand a chance at survival.
I invite you to join the Post Ego movement today and seek freedom from this insanity. Start by exploring the articles in the Scientists series, and reach out if you seek more information about our cause.
The future of humanity is at stake, and
