Uncovering Timothy Agnew: A Hidden Literary Treasure on Medium
Written on
As a volunteer editor and content curator for the esteemed ILLUMINATION Integrated Publications, founded by my mentor Dr. Mehmet Yildiz, I engage with numerous writers within our dynamic Slack community, where I also contribute as a moderator and helpdesk coordinator. Among these many voices, one author, Timothy Agnew, truly stands out.
Tim is a relatively new voice on Medium.com, with only about 129 followers. Yet, his fervor for writing is undeniable. As a fellow healthcare professional, I have been guiding him through my Substack platform, allowing his talents to shine.
His poignant narratives, which deserve greater visibility, often struggle to gain traction due to the overwhelming allure of sensational content that dominates Medium’s algorithms.
Consider the following: a sensationalized article about sex education garnered $15K, overshadowing the earnings of many respected writers previously featured in ILLUMINATION-Curated. While I have no issue with the quality of the well-written piece, another sex-related story of lesser educational value went viral, and I addressed it with the respect it deserved.
The absurdities and inequities of content distribution prompted Dr. Yildiz to revitalize the publication as Curated Newsletters — a rebirth aimed at championing quality content amidst the noise.
Dr. Yildiz also distanced himself from the boost program for similar reasons, choosing instead to support the 99% of underprivileged writers like Tim, rather than the select few who are routinely favored.
Another perplexing instance involves an 18-year-old writer who joined Medium just three months ago, amassing 169,000 followers via TikTok, with Medium staff featuring them prominently, reaching 2.7 million people without a face photo or video.
Ironically, this newcomer now boasts 186,000 followers following a high-profile interview by Zulie @ Medium, while authentic writers and published authors like Timothy have only 129 followers. Does this make you wonder if Medium truly represents the best of the Internet?
My mentor, Dr. Yildiz, crafted a comprehensive narrative on this subject that was censored on Medium but gained viral traction on social media, thanks to his significant following across a global content ecosystem. It has since achieved triple the visibility via Substack and his personal website, reaching over 10 million readers in just one week. You can explore it through the links available on both Medium and Substack and share your thoughts on this inconsistency.
Before I introduce Tim, I have a few questions for you. Do you believe Medium’s algorithm might suppress my story because I’m sharing sincere insights as a Friend of Medium? And could they favor a non-member with fake followers over someone like me who is dedicated to attracting quality writers and readers to enhance Medium’s reputation?
I strive to provide an authentic portrayal of Timothy by sharing a profile picture and links to his published works, enriching our community, but Zulie’s recent interview in one of Medium.com’s major publications fell short in this regard. This has sparked doubts and even conspiracy theories. Let’s rally behind genuine writers and appreciate their fiction, as Medium often neglects this genre.
Tim's journey embodies both the struggles and hopes of the writing community, reminding us of the essence of authentic storytelling. His consistent, gentle requests for assistance with his delayed stories have blossomed into a meaningful friendship. Timothy’s kindness, respectfulness, and wisdom have left a lasting impression on me.
In this narrative, I am thrilled to introduce you to Timothy’s background and his extraordinary journey, inviting you to delve into his profile and be inspired by his remarkable stories.
Meet Accomplished Author Timothy Agnew.
Timothy Agnew, born and raised in Clarence, NY, now resides in Atlanta, GA. He dedicated 25 years to sports medicine as the director of a private kinesiology clinic, conducting seminars on human anatomy and movement therapies. During the pandemic, he shifted his focus to writing full-time, co-authoring higher education textbooks and ghostwriting for clients.
Tim is the co-author of Kinesiology for Manual Therapies, 2nd Edition (Handspring Publishing) and Invisible Parents: Secrets of Special Needs Parents, A Book of Hope. This updated edition, based on a best-selling textbook, covers essential topics in kinesiology, functional anatomy, and physiology. Crafted by three internationally acclaimed experts, it includes detailed anatomical illustrations, practical manual therapy techniques, and intensive learning guides to enhance palpation skills. Each chapter examines specific body regions, detailing joint and muscle anatomy along with targeted massage techniques. This invaluable resource serves both as a reference for professionals and a teaching guide for students.
Invisible Parents is now utilized in Florida schools as a guide for special needs parents.
When Noah was first diagnosed, the daily stress commenced. Over the next two decades, he often lay awake, pondering how to support a child with a lifelong disability. Questions inundated his mind.
He pondered: "Should I save for his retirement or my own? Is he receiving optimal medical care? Will he ever drive, find love, make friends, or achieve independence? Why is it so challenging to access assistance? What will happen to him when I am no longer around?"
Frequently, parents and caregivers become overwhelmed with anxiety. As Noah transitioned into adulthood, he wished he had spent less time worrying and more time embracing the journey. With the right support, and by relinquishing fear and exercising patience, Noah has been able to live life to its fullest potential. Hope lies at the core of our journey, and I hope you find it in yours.
Additionally, Tim's short fiction has been published in the Roanoke Review, Skylark (Purdue University Calumet), and the short story collection series A Cup of Comfort. His articles appear in national magazines and medical journals, while his academic work covers topics in pharmacology, nursing, and medicine.
Tim travels to new destinations annually and writes wherever he finds himself. His next adventure is to Egypt this fall. His 22-year-old son is currently a junior at Roanoke College in Virginia, studying International Relations.
Tim enjoys nature, hiking, and fitness activities, including martial arts and salsa dancing. He dedicates his time to Atlanta-based charities, such as feeding the homeless and participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters, where he mentors a young boy. He also takes pleasure in aiding emerging writers in expressing their voices on Medium.
“Writing has never been about money for me,” he states. “It’s a passion. The joy of making people laugh, cry, and think, or receiving letters about how my writing has impacted lives, is the essence of words. I advise novice writers to pursue their passions. If you fixate on niches or potential income, you will never evolve as a writer. The financial rewards will come later.”
Write until you uncover the soul of your story. Repeat.
Here we are — Tim, a genuine writer with depth and experience, has only 129 followers on Medium.com, while an 18-year-old with no real-life experiences skyrockets to 186,000 followers in just three months. Is this truly what the best part of the Internet represents?

These captivating stories are pure gold but have struggled to gain recognition due to Medium’s algorithm and the human curators’ preoccupation with sensational clickbait. Take a moment to read them, show your support, and spread the word — Tim has some incredible tales that deserve a fair chance!
