A Personal Journey: Conquering Alcohol and Embracing Health

Written on

Chapter 1: Commitment to Change

Investing in oneself is the most valuable choice one can make. I've decided to return to a healthier way of living and see how far I can push myself. Standing at 5 feet 9 inches and weighing 74 kg, I've committed to working out for 30 minutes every weekday. Until recently, I aimed not to eat after 6:30 PM, following a self-made diet plan. While I don't have a noticeable belly, I still feel dissatisfied with how I look in my clothes. I know I can achieve more, so I'm taking it step by step.

Section 1.1: Evening Eating Restrictions

One of my first steps was to tighten my evening routine by stopping all food intake by 7:00 PM at the latest. I've eliminated carbohydrates from my meals, opting for salmon and salad today. Was it enough to satisfy my hunger? Absolutely not! Right now, I'm ravenous and could devour anything in sight. It's an uncomfortable sensation, but I keep reminding myself that the effort will be worth it when I look in the mirror. For the past two days, I’ve managed, though the constant hunger feels overwhelming.

Subsection 1.1.1: The Struggles of Discipline

Section 1.2: The Challenge of Cheat Meals

The toughest part of my routine is avoiding cheat meals. Watching my children indulge in yogurt, cookies, and bread is challenging, yet I know I must remain steadfast. A slip-up could lead to more, a familiar pattern I've experienced before. It's a common narrative: "It’s fine to indulge earlier in the day." Sure, but that mindset often leads to regrettable outcomes.

I once encountered a YouTuber who promoted a workout that allowed for guilt-free eating. Good luck with that! I plan to reserve Saturdays for my own indulgences and will keep you posted on how that goes.

Chapter 2: The Battle with Alcohol

The hardest part of my diet is undoubtedly cutting out alcohol. Recently, I faced a frustrating situation with my bank regarding a crucial transaction that was delayed for no apparent reason. While it was a pre-approved transaction, one bureaucrat decided to hold things up for a double-check, leaving me in a bind.

What did I resort to? I opened a bottle of red wine! As time passed, my manager began to inquire about a backup plan. Thankfully, the transaction eventually cleared, but I finished the bottle that night. I hadn’t had a drink for two days, not even on Christmas. I’ve also stopped purchasing strong beverages and am attempting to wait until Friday to drink again.

Section 2.1: Staying Active

I’ve set a goal to walk 8,000 steps every day, come what may. I recently invested $435 in a new Apple Watch since my previous model quickly lost charge. I've been committed to this since December 10th and am thrilled with the results. I enjoy going outside and listening to podcasts about the stock market. Working from home allows me to shift my environment, which helps clear my mind. During my walks, I confront both my physical challenges and my anxieties about investing in stocks at high prices.

I’ll continue to update you on my progress. Thank you for reading this to the end, and don’t forget to subscribe to my blog!
