Convenience Foods to Stockpile for Busy Times

Written on

Chapter 1: Embracing Convenience Foods

As I enter a hectic work season (Tax Season), my schedule is about to become quite demanding.

With longer hours ahead, there will be days when the last thing I want to do is prepare a meal. The temptation to resort to takeout or fast food will be high, but doing so would be both time-consuming and costly, especially since it takes about 15 minutes to reach the nearest restaurant.

So, how can I tackle this challenge? The answer lies in keeping a stock of convenience foods. These are items that are quick and easy to prepare, helping me to resist the allure of dining out.

Section 1.1: Canned Pasta

Canned pasta is a staple for me; it’s as simple as placing it in a bowl and microwaving it. In a pinch, I could even eat it cold if I lose power.

Subsection 1.1.1: Canned Mexican Foods

I always have canned chili and refried beans on hand for making burritos and tacos. Canned tamales also provide a convenient meal option for on-the-go days.

Section 1.2: Canned Soups

Canned soups are versatile; I often use them in meals (like Cream of Mushroom for casseroles) and some, like Campbell's Chunky Soups, can be enjoyed as a meal on their own.

Chapter 2: Quick Snacks and Meals

In this video, discover the top seven foods to stock up on for your prepper pantry, ensuring you’re well-prepared for busy times.

Frozen meals are another lifesaver. On those particularly hectic nights, having a frozen dinner ready to heat in under five minutes is far more efficient than heading to a fast-food place.

This video covers seven essential foods you should stock up on now to prepare for next month, offering great ideas for convenience meals.

Section 2.1: Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is another quick option—just spread it on bread for a speedy breakfast or lunch when time is tight.

Section 2.2: Baking Mixes and Cake Mixes

Cake mixes are great for a quick treat; I simply combine them with soda in a bread machine for a delightful cake on weekends. Baking mixes, too, save a lot of time when whipping up casseroles, muffins, waffles, or pancakes, eliminating the need for a multitude of ingredients.

Conclusion

Having convenience foods stocked up helps me steer clear of takeout on busy evenings. Contrary to the belief that takeout saves time, it often doesn’t, especially with a drive of 15 minutes involved. Preparing a meal with convenience foods is usually quicker than visiting a fast-food restaurant.

Additionally, I save money by avoiding restaurant markups and the fuel costs associated with driving there. The convenience foods I keep on hand are invaluable for saving both time and money.
